“CHAIRS… an Ongoing Story. The exhibition presents a visual timeline that begins with a question as simple as it is unsettling: Have you ever felt like a chair? Through works in various formats—from digital prints and acrylics on cardboard to oil on canvas—Hosefa Tavolara constructs a narrative that is both intimate and collective, centered on the loss of subjecthood in contemporary Peruvian society. … The artist offers a powerful visual metaphor between the evolution of her Chairs and the female condition. …In her own words, “we are treated as the support for others… people can even sit on us.”
As the exhibition progresses, the chairs begin to gain freedom…
However, the show does not end with this initial act of liberation. One final piece stands as a reminder that this story is still unfolding…
…In this closing work, the chairs no longer embody only women, but an entire people who have been stripped of their voice, their dignity, and their agency. This piece concludes the exhibition as a visual cliffhanger—a wake-up call that suggests that in today’s Peru, there is still much to unearth, question, and transform.”

“SI-LLES… Una Historia Continua, presenta una línea de tiempo visual que parte de una pregunta tan sencilla como incómoda: ¿Alguna vez te has sentido como una silla? A través de obras en diversos formatos - desde impresión digital, acrílicos sobre cartulina y óleos sobre tela – Hosefa Tavolara construye una narrativa tanto íntima como colectiva sobre la pérdida del estatus de sujeto en la sociedad peruana actual. …Es una poderosa metáfora visual la que plantea la artista entre la evolución de sus Sillas y la condición femenina. …En palabras de la artista, “somos tratadas como el soporte del otro… hasta se nos pueden sentar encima”.
“A medida que avanza la exposición, las sillas adquieren libertad…. …Sin embargo, la exposición no concluye con esta primera liberación. Una última obra se alza como un recordatorio de que esta historia sigue en curso. …En esta pieza final, las sillas ya no solo encarnan a mujeres, sino a un pueblo que ha sido despojado de su voz, su dignidad y su capacidad de agencia. Esta obra cierra la muestra como un cliffhanger visual, una llamada de atención que sugiere que, en el Perú actual, aún queda mucho por desenterrar, cuestionar y transformar.”
